Do not inject any medication that is cloudy or discolored or that has particles in it. What is DDAVP? DDAVP is a synthetic (man-made) form of the natural hormone arginine vasopressin. Arginine vasopressin is important in the regulation of blood blood pressure stomach and intestinal movement uterine function and kidney function. DDAVP is used to treat hemophilia A von Willebrand's disease (Type I) and cranial diabetes insipidus. DDAVP may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide. What should I discuss with my healthcare provider before taking DDAVP? Before taking this medication tell your doctor if you have Type II von Willebrand's disease heart disease high blood pressure or cystic fibrosis. You may not be able to take DDAVP or you may require a lower dose or special monitoring if you have any of the conditions listed above. DDAVP is in the FDA pregnancy category B. This means that it is not expected to harm an unborn baby. Do not take DDAVP without first talking to your doctor if you are pregnant. It is not known whether DDAVP passes into breast milk. To reduce the chance of water intoxication elderly patients should restrict fluid intake and drink only enough to satisfy thirst. How should I take DDAVP? Take DDAVP exactly as directed by your doctor. If you do not understand these directions ask your doctor nurse or pharmacist to explain them to you. Take each oral dose with a full glass of water. The injectable forms of DDAVP are only for subcutaneous injection (under the skin) or intravenous injection (into the vein). Use only a fast-acting inhalation medication. Advair Diskus is a powder form of fluticasone and salmeterol that comes with a special inhaler device pre-loaded with blister packs containing measured doses of the medicine. The device opens and loads a blister each time you use the inhaler. This device is not to be used with a spacer. Advair HFA is an aerosol form of fluticasone and salmeterol that comes in a canister that is used with an actuator inhaler device. Use only the inhaler device provided with Advair HFA. This device is not to be used with a spacer. Shake the Advair HFA inhaler for at least 5 seconds before each spray. Before using fluticasone and salmeterol inhalation tell your doctor if you are using any of the following drugs: amiodarone (Cordarone); a diuretic or water pill; HIV medicines such as atazanavir (Reyataz) ritonavir (Norvir) indinavir (Crixivan) nelfinavir (Viracept) or saquinavir (Invirase); an MAO inhibitor such as isocarboxazid (Marplan) tranylcypromine (Parnate) phenelzine (Nardil) rasagiline (Azilect) or selegiline (Eldepryl Emsam); an antidepressant such as amitriptyline (Elavil) desipramine (Norpramin) fluoxetine (Prozac) nefazodone or imipramine (Tofranil); antibiotics such as clarithromycin (Biaxin) or telithromycin (Ketek); antifungal medications such as ketoconazole (Nizoral) or itraconazole (Sporanox); or a beta-blocker such as atenolol (Tenormin) carvedilol (Coreg) metoprolol (Lopressor Toprol) and others.
